| Hughes Mountain Natural Area |
This area is listed on "Missouri Geographic Wonders." You can see ancient volcanic rhyolite rock formations, including vertical columns known locally as Devil's Honeycomb. See a striking photograph here.
Hughes Mountain Natural Area is 11 miles south of Potosi on Highway 21, five miles left on Route M, and a quarter-mile right on Cedar Creek Road.
This area is about half forest with glades, savanna and old fields.
Facilities/ feaures: unique geological formations. The Principle natural features are the polygonal columns of rhyolite known locally as the Devil's honeycomb and igneous glades, forests, and savannas.
Actvities here include bird watching, hiking and hunting.
This Natural Area is comprised of over 460 acres, over half of which is forest land.
There is one trail, the Devil's Honeycomb Trail.
